A man who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he ran.
The man played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had worries about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the defendant continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She said Ruben then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
