The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
