Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
